Expect traffic detours, delays Sunday

Early-morning motorists should be prepared for slight delays and traffic detours on Sunday, Nov. 10, because of the Pell Bridge Run that is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. According to organizers, police will begin blocking off some roads at 4:30 a.m.

No pedestrians other than registered athletes will be allowed on any part of the bridge during the run.

In Jamestown, East Shore Road between the intersection of Conanicus Avenue and the Route 138 on-ramp will be closed between 4:30 and 7:30 a.m. From 6 to 6:45 a.m., Conanicus Avenue will be closed from the Jamestown Golf Course north to the Route 138 onramp.

Traffic on the Pell Bridge will be reduced to a single lane in each direction between 6 and 8 a.m. The downtown Newport exit will be closed to traffic until 8 a.m.

In Newport from 6 to 8 a.m., Farewell Avenue will be closed through America’s Cup Avenue. Also, Van Zandt Street at the corner of Farewell will also be closed to traffic. Expect delays using America’s Cup and Farewell avenues until 8:30 a.m.
