John William Champlin
John William Champlin, 90, of Crystal River, Fla., passed away on Oct. 12, 2013, at Woodland Terrace of Citrus County in Hernando, Fla. A native of Jamestown, he was born March 30, 1923 to Paul and Elizabeth (Swinburne) Champlin, one of two children. John was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WWII and then enjoyed a career of nearly 40 years in designing and engineering submarine weapon guidance systems for the U.S. government. His stations included Naval Underwater Ordnance Systems in both Washington, D.C., and Rhode Island, as well as Electric Boat in Groton, Conn. John moved to Florida in 1990 from his native Jamestown. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Jamestown prior to coming to Florida. He is survived by his wife of 11 years, Rosemary Champlin, Crystal River, Fla.; son John Paul Champlin and wife Laurel of Otisfield, Maine, and former daughter-in-law Karen Graziano of Glenmont, N.Y.
Mr. Champlin was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his son, Anna Mary Champlin in 2000, and a brother, Paul Champlin. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
