Rabies found in dead fox in East Greenwich
State officials last week received positive confirmation of rabies in a dead gray fox found in East Greenwich. The dead animal was discovered on Dec. 9 in a barn located in the vicinity where a suspected rabid fox had attacked several individuals last month.
Finding rabies in wildlife is common and one of the reasons possessing native feral animals is prohibited in Rhode Island. Residents who think they have been in contact with a rabid animal can call the Health Department at 222-2577. For a possible infected animal, call the Department of Environmental Management at 222- 3070.
