Grab your bathing suits! The third annual Jamestown 1st Day Plunge is only days away. The penguin paddle will kick things off at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at East Ferry, while the plunge goes off at noon. This year’s proceeds will benefit Save The Bay, the Parks & Recreation Department and Jamestown Fire Department. Check out James town1stDayPlunge.com for more details about registration. Thanks to the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce for hosting “Polar Express” on Saturday. The kids (and adults) had a blast and you could smell the movie theatre popcorn from up the street.

A Lego robotics team from Lawn School – Back with the Pack – won the project award during the First Lego League’s qualifier at Salve Regina. Their project was called “Storm Surge Oyster Buoy.” Team members are Tyler Atwood, Travis Atwood, Sam Cowan, Connor Smith and Colby Bush. Back with the Pack and The Beards are Back will represent Lawn School at the state championship on Jan. 11 at Roger Williams University.

I heard Wintersong singers delighted shoppers downtown by performing some holiday songs.

There are two new programs on the schedule to help with the winter blues. Young adult pick-up basketball will start Monday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Pick-up adult soccer is already running on Thursdays from 7:30 9:30 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to noon. Both programs are held at the recreation center.

*** Are you putting away all your Christmas gifts, gear and decorations? Be on the lookout for the following items on the Conanicut Island Sailing Foundation wish list for next summer: masks, snorkels, flippers, fishing poles and equipment, lobster traps, seine nets, bug boxes, and a projector and screen. The foundation is also looking for anyone involved in the marine or sailing industry to come in during lunchtime and speak to the Sea Adventure Camp kids. Call 855- 6643 if you can help.

Yawgoo is open! Temperatures were great for snowmaking earlier in the month and there is skiing and riding on eight trails with three lifts. The snow-tubing park is also open. There is still time to get a season pass, lease equipment, or purchase ski and snowboarding accessories including helmets, gloves, goggles and socks.

Yesterday our Elf on the Shelf retired to the North Pole for the offseason. Phew.
