James M. Barron Sr.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Frank and Rita (Corrigan) Barron. Jim graduated from Cranston High School East and Rhode Island College with a master’s degree in guidance and certificates in special education. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
He worked for Eastern Airlines for 17 years as an aircraft technician and acted as a general contractor for L & B Development in Jamestown for five years.
He ended his career as a guidance counselor at East Providence High School and as a driver education teacher for the state of Rhode Island for 25 years. In June 2013, he celebrated his retirement.
He was a member of the National Education Association and the Rhode Island School Counselor Association.
Jim loved flying and was a private pilot in his early years. He enjoyed sports, boating and skiing. He established the Follow Me Ski Club.
He was a military history buff and liked to watch old Western movies. He adored spending time with his new granddaughters, family and friends.
He was a communicant of St. Mark Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Mark council.
Besides his wife, he leaves two children, James M. Barron Jr. and his wife Cristina of Jamestown, and Jennifer L. Angeloro and her husband Daniel of Basalt, Colo.; two grandchildren, Sienna Rose Barron and Jolene Elizabeth Angeloro; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Eugene and Joseph Barron.
