From Dec. 24 to Dec. 30, the Jamestown Police Department responded to 353 calls for service, resulting in 193 security checks of vacant homes, businesses and public buildings.
The police also responded to 13 medical/fire calls, five animal complaints, eight parking complaints, and 19 alarms. Officers conducted 35 traffic stops, resulting in one arrest and four traffic citations.
James D. Berube, 33, of Keene Street, Marshfield, Mass., was charged Dec. 28 with driving under the influence of alcohol and refusal to submit to a chemical test. According to police, Berube was pulled over on Narragansett Avenue for speeding and running a stop sign. Berube was transported to the police station where he was processed and arraigned by a justice of the peace. Berube was released after posting bail. A court date was scheduled for Jan. 3 at 2nd Division District Court in Newport.
