Police Log

From Jan. 14 to Jan. 20, the Jamestown Police Department responded to 416 calls for service, resulting in 232 security checks of vacant homes, businesses and public buildings.

The police also responded to 13 emergency calls, 10 animal complaints resulting in one citation, three parking complaints and seven alarms. Officers conducted 42 traffic stops, resulting in four arrests and three citations.

DUI

• Jacob J. Zhawred, 20, of Ford Avenue, Cumberland, was charged Jan. 14 for driving under the influence of alcohol and refusal to submit to a chemical test. According to police, Zhawred was pulled over on Eldred Avenue after he drove off the roadway. Zhawred was transported to the police station where he was processed. Zhawred was then taken to 2nd Division District Court in Newport for arraignment.

• Brandon F. Leo, 28, of Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown, was charged Jan. 18 for driving under the influence of alcohol and refusal to submit to a chemical test. Leo was charged for second-offense DUI. According to police, Leo was pulled over on Narragansett Avenue after the officer witnessed multiple moving violations. Leo was transported to the police station where he was processed. Leo was then arraigned by a justice of the peace and released. A court date was scheduled for Jan. 24 at 2nd Division District Court in Newport.

License

• Stuart L. Rice, 60, of Gondola Avenue, Jamestown, was charged Jan. 14 for driving with a suspended license following a DUI violation. According to police, Rice was pulled over on North Road. Rice was transported to the police station where he was processed. Rice was then taken to 2nd Division

District Court in Newport for arraignment.

• Michael E. Johnson, 56, of Halsey Street, Newport, was charged Jan. 15 for driving with a suspended license. According to police, Johnson for pulled over on Route 138 for speeding. Johnson was transported to the police station where he was processed. Johnson was issued a citation and released.

Warrant

David C. Harpool, 25, of Hamilton Avenue, Jamestown, was charged Jan. 15 for an outstanding bench warrant issued from Newport Superior Court. According to police, Harpool was arrested after an officer saw him on North Road. The officer was aware of the active warrant. Harpool was transported to the police station where he was processed. Harpool was then taken to 2nd Division District Court in Newport for arraignment.
