Everyone invited to audition for plays

As per the article in last week’s Jamestown Press, the Jamestown Community Theatre is going to perform in April. The cast will be much smaller, and we will present non-musical theatre. So if you have been waiting to do something that does not involve singing or to be a part of a production that requires less rehearsal time, here is your chance.

The performances will be one weekend only, April 3 to April 6. The three one-acts are a mixture of drama and comedy. Although we announced last week in the Press that one of the acts would be “The New Girl,” we have decided to change to another selection to be announced. Please note that our new selection could include more people of different ages, including teens and adults. If you are interested, please show up at auditions and we will look at all who try out, then figure out which third one-act best fits with the individuals who show up. If we can cast these three one-acts with different people in each one, rehearsal time will be much less than for our musicals. We are hoping appropriate cast members to portray the needed roles will show up at auditions, but we may have to adjust our plays based on tryouts, so please bear with our need for flexibility.

At present, we are planning on performing “The Fire-Breathing Lady and the Sugarplum Fairy” by Jason Milligan. Roles are needed for an overbearing Southern stage mother and father, a elementary school teacher, a boy between the ages 7 and 8, a boy between the ages 11 and 13, a girl between the ages 8 and 10 who must be able to perform some gymnastics, a pizza delivery boy, and a female babysitter, who could be an older teen.

For “Key Lime Pie” by Jason Mil- ligan, roles are needed for a Southern woman in her mid-20s, her older sister, an elderly man, and a nurse.

Auditions are on Monday, Feb. 10, at the Bridges Annex at 2 Hammett Court off of Howland Avenue. Children and teens who are trying out should arrive at 6:30 p.m. with a parent or guardian. Adults should arrive at 7:15 p.m. There are a limited amount of roles, but there are other ways for people to get involved in the plays. To work behind the scenes, come to the auditions between 6:45 and 7:30 p.m. to speak with producer Michelle Gibbs.

No advance preparations are necessary. Those going away for February break should not be discouraged from trying out. Call me at 741-9818 or email me at ms.wright@cox.net to learn more. Those who audition must work or reside in Jamestown.

We look forward to welcoming former and new members to our JCT family.
