Andrew Nota named town administrator
The Town Council on Thursday voted Andrew Nota as the new town administrator.
Nota takes over for Kevin Paicos, who resigned two weeks ago over a residency clause. Nota served previously as the director of administration services in South Kingstown, the same position held by Bruce Keiser before he accepted the Jamestown post.
Nota will start the job March 31.
The Town Council met for 75 minutes behind closed doors Thursday before returning to open session with the announcement. Councilor Eugene Mihaly made the motion to appoint Nota, and Councilor Mary Meagher seconded it.
The vote was unanimous. Council President Kristine Trocki said Nota will be paid "at the budgeted salary.” Town Solicitor Peter Ruggiero is negotiating other terms of his contract.
Trocki said per the town charter, Nota will be required to maintain in-state residency. However, the councilors are not formally requesting Jamestown residency, due to the fact Nota has expressed an intention to live in town and is currently nearby.
Nota said after the meeting he is living in Saunderstown.
Nota thanked the councilors for their "professionalism" during the hiring process and in making "a critical decision for the community." He said he felt a connection between Jamestown and his own career. He described the job as "one that presents challenges for me which I welcome."
He had been a finalist, Trocki said, during the last search that resulted in hiring Paicos. As a result, she said, he was "well vetted prior to this week," but Trocki called additional references over the past week.
"His character is exceptional,” she said. "He's a fantastic listener and will respond very clearly to demands made of him.”
