Piano concert Monday for island students
Cuban-born pianist Carlos Fagundo will perform a program of French and Spanish music on the Jamestown community piano at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church on Monday, March 31, at 3 p.m. The concert has been designed especially for students at the Jamestown schools, although everyone is invited to attend. In addition to his musical interest, Fagundo is a linguist with a graduate degree in French from the University of Virginia. He has taught French language and literature at the University of Virginia and Sweet Briar College. He specializes in the connections between poetry and music, and is currently investigating composer Debussy and the various 19th century poets who inspired many of his compositions. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations for piano maintenance and performance support are accepted.
