Rotarians say thanks
The Rotary Club of Jamestown wishes to express its heartfelt thanks to the many Jamestowners who participated in our first-ever community picnic at the Fort Getty pavilion on May 24.
The event successfully gathered 24 community organizations from Jamestown, as well as many island residents, for a free picnic. The picnic provided an opportunity for Jamestown residents and the 24 organizations to share their varied purposes and interests, all while enjoying grilled food, baked beans, fresh fruit and incredibly delicious ice cream.
Our special thanks to Spinnakers for donating its incredible ice cream; McQuade’s Marketplace for providing food and Rhody Fresh milk; Jamestown Recreation.
Department for all its assistance with the pavilion and the bounce house for kids; Jamestown Fire Department’s EMS company for Rescue 3 and its new power stretcher; Jamestown Police Department; the Jamestown Press for its publicity, especially Ken Shane and Stephanie Heelan Cotsonas; and the wonderful poster from Met School artist Josh Costa, under the tutelage of Casey Weibust.
The following 24 organizations were represented at the community picnic: the recreation department, fire department, police department, Saint Matthew’s Church, St. Mark’s Church Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Boy Scouts Troop 1, Conanicut Island Art Association, Conanicut Island Sailing Foundation, Quononoquott Garden Club, Chamber of Commerce, community band, community chorus, community farm, community theater, Friends of the Jamestown Library, Girls Scouts, Jamestown Historical Society, Humane Society of Jamestown, Jamestown PTO, Jamestown Prevention Coalition, Taxpayers Association of Jamestown, and the teen center.
