Students honored for academic feats

• Five Jamestown residents graduated from the Community College of Rhode Island this month. Nancy Escher graduated with highest honors, Victoria Delmonico graduated with high honors, and Kellie Cunningham- Toland, Casey Baylis Miller and Andrew Rushton graduated with honors. Also graduating was Victoria Shaw.

• Jamestown resident Blanca Ligia Zelaya-Rincon graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. She attended high school at the Lincoln School in Providence. Zelaya- Rincon was also named to the dean’s list for the spring semester. To be eligible for the dean’s list at WPI, full-time students must have get an A in each of their core courses. She is the daughter of Oscar Zelaya and Blanca Rincon.

• Jamestown resident Kevin Colin John Flanagan graduated from Bryant University in Smithfield with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

• Jamestown resident Michael Schnack graduated from West Virginia University in Morgantown with a bachelor’s degree in economics. He is the son of Colleen and Mike Schnack.

• Jamestown resident Hannah Cordes graduated magna cum laude from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., with a bachelor’s degree in literary studies and theater. She attended high school at the Prout School in Wakefield. She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa national honor society and the Alpha Psi Omega theater honor society.

• Jamestown resident Karalyn Sommers graduated from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. She attended high school at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, N.H. She is the daughter of David and Heidi Sommers.

• Jamestown resident Read van der Wal graduated with a bachelor’s degree in communication design from Syracuse University in New York. He is the son of Onne and Tenley van der Wal.

• Jamestown resident William van der Wal graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Hobart College in Geneva, N.Y. He is the son of Onne and Tenley van der Wal.

• Jamestown resident Shannon Sheekey was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Keene State College in New Hampshire. She majors in education. Students must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher to be eligible for the dean’s list.

• Jamestown resident Garrett Bucklin was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Rivier University in Nashua, N.H. He attended high school at North Kingstown. To be eligible for the dean’s list at Rivier, full-time students much achieve a semester GPA of 3.5 or better.

• The Jamestown Women’s Club chose its 2015 scholarship recipients. Seniors Hayley Carlisle and Owen Baertlein were awarded $1,000 each. Carlisle will attend American University in Washington, D.C., and Baertlein will attend the University of Maine. Dustin Page and Nicholas Fay were each awarded $500 toward their continuing education. Page is a student at the International Yacht Restoration School, and Fay is a second-year student at the University of Rhode Island.
