Deckhands needed to crew SSV Perry

Licensed deckhands are needed to crew the 200-foot SSV Oliver Hazard Perry, the country’s first full-rigged tall ship to be built in more than a century. The vessel, which is Rhode Island’s official floating classroom, is home-ported in Newport. It will sail throughout New England this summer.

Applicants should be certified able seamen or have their master’s license with an auxiliary sail endorsement. Crewmen must be able to work the deck and aloft.

According to Jamestown resident Jessica Wurzbacher, executive director, the Oliver Hazard Perry is a traditional tall ship with modern features. Above deck, there is a 130-foot rig, 19 spars and 20 sails totaling 14,000 square feet. Below deck are climate-controlled science labs. The ship is wheelchair accessible.
