Free blues concert is final show of season

Saxophonist Doug James and blues guitarist Willie Laws Jr. will perform at 3 p.m. April 9 at the library, 26 North Road.

This is the final concert in the library’s free winter series. James, who currently is on tour with Jimmy Vaughn, moved to Rhode Island in 1971 and began playing with Duke Robillard’s band, Roomful of Blues. He also has played with Stevie Ray Vaughan and Muddy Waters during his career.

Laws, who was born in Texas, has opened for B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Hall & Oates. His authentic blues repertoire includes a twist of zydeco and funk.
