Vaccinate pets for rabies Saturday

The town will vaccinate pets for rabies from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the fire station, 50 Narragansett Ave. Dogs, cats and ferrets at least 6 months old must be vaccinated. The fee is $10 per animal and is payable by cash only. Pets must be leashed or in a carrier.

Vaccinations given to dogs that day will be valid for three years, only if proof of prior vaccination is provided, otherwise inoculations will be valid for a year. Proof is defined as a signed rabies vaccination certificate showing the date of vaccination and the expiration date. Ferrets and cats must be inoculated every year.

Dog licenses will also be issued at the rabies clinic. The fee is $6 for spayed and neutered dogs and $16 for dogs that haven’t been fixed. Personal checks will be accepted for licensing at the rabies clinic. A $25 late fee will be charged for dogs licensed after April 30.

Following the April 1 clinics, licenses will be on sale beginning April 3 at the town clerk’s office, 93 Narragansett Ave., Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dogs that were not licensed in town last year must be registered at Town Hall. They cannot be licensed at the clinic.
