Charles Everett Cabral

Charles Everett Cabral, 95, of Jamestown, died March 23, 2017.

He was a son of the late Charles S. and Gloria P. (Medeiros) Cabral; and brother of the late Richard G. Cabral and Lily C. Costa. He was the former husband of Eva P. Cabral and Dorothy Anderson.

He was the father of Gloria Gigi Greene, Charles E. Cabral Jr. and the late Charles W. Cabral; stepfather of Karen Butler and the late C. Bill Anderson; grandfather of Amanda Bruno and Gwendolen Lane; step-grandfather of the late Ian Anderson; and great-grandfather of Avery J. and Robert W. Lane.

Born on Governor Street in the Fox Point section of Providence, he resided in Jamestown for 85 years. He attended school in Jamestown and Newport.

He was employed in construction of the old Jamestown bridge, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wharton and Round House Shipyards in Jamestown, Wickford Shipyard and Broward Marine in Florida. In 1960, Mr. Cabral built, owned and operated Dutch Harbor Shipyard for 30 years in Jamestown. He also was the harbormaster of the West Passage for 29 years; serving as president of the Rhode Island Harbor Masters Association for several years. He is a past president of the Jamestown Holy Ghost Society and as an accomplished mandolin musician played in their orchestra.

He was a World War II veteran, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy on flight crews on PBYS and B-24s. His base was in England and he flew anti-sub patrol in the North Sea Bay of Biscay. He was recognized with a letter of commendation for assisting in fighting a fire when an aircraft exploded.

A graveside service with military honors was conducted March 29 in St. Mark Cemetery.
