Film about Pell slated at arts center tonight
A documentary about U.S. Sen. Claiborne Pell will be screened at 7 p.m. April 20 at the Jamestown Arts Center, 18 Valley St.
“Pell” tells the story of the Rhode Islander who wanted to give students an opportunity for higher education regardless of their economic background. The film takes viewers from the mansions of Newport to the dramatic 1972 legislative conference that details how a wealthy, unassuming Rhode Islander reached across party lines to pass historic legislation.
The 52-minute documentary was directed by Steven Feinberg, executive director of the Rhode Island Film & Television Office. Elyse Katz produced the film. Admission is $10 at the door.
