East Ferry parking lot is fine just the way it is now

To the editor:

Donald Richardson’s letter to the editor (March 9) contained many valid points that should be heeded in planning for East Ferry.

I would like to add to his comments that the present paved area being used for parking historically was the area where vehicles lined up to board the ferryboats. When I was growing up in Jamestown, and even today, cars would park at the seawall, looking out at the bay while eating ice cream from Hunt’s or Pitcher’s.

If the town has $300,000 to spare for an unnecessary over-engineered project, why not plan to commemorate East Ferry’s colorful history, not bulldoze it?

And for far less cost.
