HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE

ISLAND TREASURES GIVES LAWN STUDENTS CHANCE TO LEARN AND HAVE FUN

Lawn School hosted its annual Island Treasures Friday with two dozen businesses and individuals donating their time to provide an inside glimpse into certain professions.

About 215 students took part in the daylong event, which had workshops both at the school and off-site.

It is more than a career day, said principal Nate Edmunds, it’s a way for students and the community to connect.

“These kids get to experience it and feel it, and that’s incredible for them,” he said.

Among those students were Julia Totten and Brent Newell, above, who kneaded dough with owner Joy Vieira at Ace’s Pizza. Students also set sail, left, with the Conanicut Island Sailing Foundation off Fort Getty.
