Alice Margaret Dutra

Alice Margaret Dutra, 85, passed away Saturday, July 1 after a prolonged illness.

Alice was a graduate of the Rogers High School Commercial Course and worked as a bookkeeper for the Standard Wholesale Co. for 17 years.

Alice devoted her life to her family, enjoying a lifetime “best-friendship” with her late sister, Mary Ann Schrader, and lovingly working as the primary caregiver for her aging parents, the late Joseph and Frances (Furtado) Dutra of 78 Clarke St., Jamestown, for more than 15 years. She found personal ways to pour love into each of her nieces and nephews for three generations.

Her love for fun, games, laughter and singing brought vitality to family gatherings. She strove for excellence in all that she did in her jobs, as well as her roles of friendship and kinship. She took great pride and joy in being a lifetime member of St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, where her sweet harmonies were a familiar part of congregational singing. Her love for God directed each day, and His love was her source of joy and purpose. Passion for learning, appreciation for beauty, and compassion for all characterize her legacy.

Alice is survived by her brother-in-law Clarence W. Schrader, nieces and nephews Mary F. Dick and James L. Dick, Joseph C. Schrader, Nancy M. Schrader, great nieces and nephews: Mary R. Miller (Samuel), Joseph M. Schrader (Alexandra), Alisa C. Krause (Ryan), and great-great niece and nephews Levi, Wesley and Hannah Miller.

Visitation is from 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 8 in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Ave., Jamestown. Burial will follow in St. Mark Cemetery. For information and condolences, visit www.FaganQuinnFuneralHome.com.
