Shipwrecks in bay topic of Monday talk

The author of “Rhode Island Shipwrecks” will speak during the Jamestown Historical Society’s annual meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at the library, 26 North Road.

Charlotte Taylor is an archaeologist with the Rhode Island Historical Preservation & Heritage Commission, the state agency responsible for identifying and managing historic sites.

In her book, Taylor presents dramatic images of historic boating disasters in Rhode Island, which has had more shipwrecks per square mile than any other state. She also works with the Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project to study the Revolutionary War fleet that visited Narragansett Bay.

The free presentation will follow a half-hour business meeting in which the society will elect officers for the upcoming year.
