Documentary against mansions next week

A documentary following a man’s crusade to limit mansions on Martha’s Vineyard will be screened at 7 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Jamestown Arts Center, 17 Valley St.

“One Big Home” was released in 2016 following 12 years of filming by Thomas Bena, a carpenter who campaigned for a bylaw to regulate oversized homes. According to filmmakers, the documentary captures builders as they look the other way while the community’s character is destroyed by trophy properties.

Bena graduated in 1989 with a marketing degree from the University of Massachusetts. He settled in the town of Chilmark as a carpenter in 1999 and founded the Martha’s Vineyard Film Festival in 2001. James Holland, a Rhode Island School of Design grad, co-produced “One Big Home.” The cost is $10 at the door.
