Lecture Sunday about walls of Watson Farm

A University of Connecticut professor will present a geology lecture from 2-4 p.m. Aug. 27 at Watson Farm, 455 North Road.

Robert Thorson, author of the bestseller “Stone by Stone: The Magnificent History in New England’s Stone Walls,” will discuss the glaciers that carved out Narragansett Bay more than 40,000 years ago. Those formations uncovered ancient rock that formed the rounded cobbles seen in stone walls. He also will discuss the farm’s natural history and the changes caused by humans.

Following the presentation, Thorson will lead a guided 1.5- mile walking tour to view the rocks and stone walls on the seaside property. Admission is $20; Historic New England members receive a $5 discount. Registration is recommended by calling Don Minto at 423- 0005 or by visiting Historic New England’s website.
