Part of North Main Road to be closed

Town workers are prepping North Main Road from Godena Farm north to West Reach Drive for reconstruction, which will include periods of single-lane traffic and complete closures. Work is expected to begin Oct. 16.

According to Town Engineer Mike Gray, work will start with full depth reclamation of the existing pavement. Once that is finished, crews will grade the road for the first layer of asphalt. While the stretch of road will remain open during these operations, traffic will be limited to a single lane. With weather permitting, Gray anticipates paving by the end of that week. During this phase, North Main Road will be closed to traffic between Laurel Lane and West Reach Drive. Northbound traffic will be detoured at Carr Lane and Frigate Street, while access to North Main Road from Sloop Street, Capstan Street and America Way will be closed. West Reach will be detoured north on North Main Road to East Shore Road.

“We are asking for cooperation from the residents to seek alternate routes and avoid that section of North Main Road during roadway construction,” Gray said.

The transfer station will be open during construction. When North Main Road is closed for paving, residents will need to access the transfer station from the north using East Shore Road.

The drainage design for the second phase includes the installation of approximately 2,500 feet of drainage piping and catch basins. It also includes construction of water quality basins on the North Pond property. Work will begin in the spring of 2018.
