Church recital planned to dedicate new organ

St. Matthew’s will dedicate its new organ during a recital at 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Episcopal church, 87 Narragansett Ave.

Performing will be Diana Norton Jackson, a former University of Rhode Island instructor who was organist at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Newport, First Baptist Church in East Greenwich and Kingston Congregational Church. She also is a former dean of the Rhode Island chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

The new Bravura digital organ, which was built by the Allen Organ Company, features 39 stops on two manuals with drawknobs. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. A reception will follow in the church hall. To learn more about the recital, call the church at 423-1762.
