Euer set to host Dec. 5 town hall

EUER EUER Dawn Euer, the Democratic lawyer from Newport who handily won a special election in August to replace Teresa Paiva Weed, has scheduled her first constituent meeting as a state senator.

Euer wants to hear from Jamestowners at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Conanicut Grange, 6 West St.

During the 90-minute session, she will overview legislation she has been drafting since taking office. She also wants to know what issues are of concern to her constituents to be addressed during the upcoming legislative session, which reconvenes in January.

Euer’s platform during the election centered on the economy. She wants to increase access to capital for small businesses while streamlining regulatory framework and investing in job training. She also champions government transparency, a proactive approach to climate change and measures that allow seniors to age in place.

Euer won a four-way race in August with 59 percent of the vote. The election was scheduled to replace the District 13 seat held by Paiva Weed, the former Senate president who served Newport and Jamestown since 1992. The 12-term Democratic lawmaker resigned in March to accept an administrator’s position at a nonprofit hospital agency in Providence.

Jamestowners unable to attend Tuesday’s meeting are invited to a second seminar at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Newport Public Library, 300 Spring St.

Euer said she can help make arrangements for childcare and transportation. She can be reached at 619-2028.
