Historians seek Carr ornament for their ferry series collection

The Jamestown Historical Society’s new exhibit in the library celebrates the holiday season with a display of Christmas ornaments depicting sights around town.

There also are more than 20 years of Christmas greeting cards on display from Conanicut Marine Service.

Two of the eight ornaments displayed are medallions depicting ferryboats, which were sold by the Jamestown Village Association, the local business coop that predated the chamber of commerce.

There were, however, three medallions in the ferryboat series. Because the society is missing the 1996 Governor Carr ornament, members are making a plea to anyone who is willing to donate the keepsake.

“The society would be very grateful,” exhibit curator Carol Lake said.

If you have the ornament, contact Sue Maden at 423- 2167.

All the cards exhibited were drawn by Jamestown artists, most recently by Evelyn Thistle Rhodes.
