Online registration set for New Year’s plunge

The sixth annual Jamestown First Day Plunge will begin at 10 a.m. Jan. 1 at East Ferry near the junction of Conanicus and Narragansett avenues.

The New Year’s Day tradition features swimmers who will dive into the harbor at the stroke of noon to celebrate the arrival of 2018. Leading up to the plunge, there will be a paddleboard race, fire pits and food trucks.

Registration is available online at the rec department’s website. Cost is $20. Plungers also can register on New Year’s Day at the recreation center. Commemorative T-shirts and hats will be on sale. Proceeds will benefit the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association, the Jamestown Historical Society and the eighth-grade field trip to Washington, D.C.
