Annual bird count set for Saturday morning

The 36th annual winter bird count begins at 7 a.m. Dec. 30 at the police station, 250 Conanicus Ave.

Volunteers will be divided into four groups to search the farms, the north end, Beavertail and the village. Birders should bring binoculars, field guides and sturdy walking shoes. The groups will meet back at the police station at noon to tally results.

The winter record is 81 species set in 2013. Residents who see birds at their homes can report their findings by calling Candy Powell at 423-1492.

Powell reminds birders to dress warmly because the forecast is predicting temperatures in the teens.
