Michael J. Nagle

Michael J. Nagle, 76, of Glen Rock, N.J., passed away Monday, Jan. 15, after a long illness.

Michael was born March 2, 1941, in Newport, R.I., to the late William and Agnes Sheehan Nagle, and raised in Jamestown.

He is survived by his loving family; wife, Marilyn, sons, Patrick, Walter and Brian and sister, Mary Jude Nagle.

He was predeceased by his brother, Emmett. Mike also leaves behind many Sheehan cousins, his brother-in-law, Jim Masterson, nephews James and Bill Masterson and their families, close friends Paul and Beth Di Censo, and many other friends.

Michael earned a BA in history from Providence College and an MA in history from the University of Rhode Island.

While in college, he served as assistant director at the Jamestown Recreation Center, and upon graduation taught at De La Salle Academy, Jamestown School and Cathedral High School Bronx Annex.

Michael was a club tennis pro at both Sharon and Melbrook country clubs. He subsequently began a career in sales at LP&P and Eastern Fine Paper, where he retired from in 1996 after 20 years.

Michael loved sports, including basketball, tennis, swimming and walking. He shared his enthusiasm for sports by coaching basketball and Little League in Jamestown and becoming a water safety instructor to make sure the children on the island could swim.

He continued his service to the youth of Glen Rock by coaching basketball, baseball and junior football, where he received a Distinguished Service Award from the Glen Rock Junior Football Association.

His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.

Burial will follow in St. Mark Cemetery in Jamestown. Visiting hours are from 3-7 p.m. Thursday.
