Update on Pell Bridge at breakfast meeting

The executive director of the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority will discuss renovations to the Pell Bridge at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 15 at the Bay Voyage Restaurant, 150 Conanicus Ave.

Buddy Croft has led the quasi-public agency, which maintains the Pell, Verrazzano, Sakonnet River and Mount Hope spans, since 2006. His presentation will focus on the monumental task to repair the 50-year-old bridge deck, which connects Jamestown and Newport. The project, which spans 2 miles, includes removing the concrete road with water jets and then pouring fresh concrete over the repaired rebar. The eight-year project, estimated to cost $45 million, has forced lane closures and traffic delays.

This event is being sponsored by the Jamestown Chamber of Commerce. Breakfast will be followed by Croft’s presentation. The cost is $20; chamber members receive a $5 discount. RSVP by e-mailing Monique Paquin at monique@jamestownrichamber.com.
