State rep will explain grant plan for seniors

Jamestown’s state representative will discuss grant opportunities for senior citizens at 11 a.m. March 8 at the Conanicut Grange, 7 West St.

Rep. Deb Ruggiero, a Democrat in the House since 2010, will explain the Rhode Island Livable Home Modification Grant. The program, which is backed by $250,000 in the state budget, allows Rhode Islanders with disabilities to remain in their homes by subsidizing renovations that meet nationally recognized accessibility standards. Grants are available for 50 percent of the total cost of retrofitting an existing residence.

Lunch will be served during the presentation. On the menu is seafood salad, cheese ravioli with meat sauce, baby carrots, spinach bruschetta, kale bean soup and Lorna Doone cookies. The presentation is free, but lunch costs $3. Reservations must be made 48 hours in advance by calling 423-2658.
