Dr. Jean-Guy E. Schilling,

Dr. Jean-Guy E. Schilling of Jamestown, passed away Feb. 27, 2018. Born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1936, he is the son of Jeanne Mathilde (Uzel) Schilling-Guerin and stepson of Charles Guerin.

Dr. Schilling was educated in Geneva, graduated from Ecole Polytechnique and obtained a bachelor’s degree of applied science at the University of Montreal, Canada. He received a Ph.D. in geochemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. Jean-Guy was professor emeritus at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography, Narragansett Bay. He is the recipient of the Maurice Ewing Medal for outstanding contributions to marine sciences and the Harold Urey Medal from the European Association of Geochemistry.

Jean-Guy was married to the late Donna Bruckshaw Schilling for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife, Anne Lamy Pecora, of Jamestown; three sisters, Nicole Senglet, Cecile Bartschi, both of Geneva, and Chantal Schilling-Guerin, of Nice, France; his late sister Monique Belanger’s husband, Jules; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues and friends. His sister Beatrix Schilling died many years ago.

A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at St. Mark Church, Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. He will be laid to rest at St. Mark’s Cemetery in Jamestown.
