Hatsuko Hareld (Morozumi)

Hatsuko Hareld (Morozumi), 91, of North Kingstown, passed away March 23, 2018.

She was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Yokohama, Japan to Jyuzou Morozumi and Masa Morozumi.

She moved to the United States in 1955 and settled in Rhode Island, where she raised a family and maintained a career.

Hatsuko was a faithful member of Soka Gakkai International USA, a Buddhist community based on the Lotus Sutra and Nichiren Buddhism, which teaches that each person has the courage, wisdom and compassion to face and surmount any of life’s challenges.

She was extremely talented and creative, well known for crafting intricate Japanese art from paper and cloth. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She will be remembered for her optimism, perseverance and her smile.

She was predeceased by her sons Raymond Hareld Jr. and Robert Hareld.

She is survived by her grandchildren Joshua Hareld, Stephanie Hareld, and Ryan Hareld and her great grandchildren Mya Hareld, Rider Hareld and Carter Stickney.

Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2018 in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.
