Bridge agency kills solar project

The state bridge agency’s controversial plan to install a 267-kilowatt solar farm at Taylor Point has been axed.

Environmentalists in town objected to the plan because it would require the clear-cutting of 3 acres of forest behind the police station. On Thursday afternoon, a spokesman for the Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority sent a press release describing the agency’s decision.

According to Jim Malachowski, “The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority has decided to not move forward with the proposed solar energy project due to the lack of support for the project from the Jamestown Town Council. RITBA has always endeavored to have a positive relationship with our host community and therefore we have cancelled the project.”
