Baptists to host opioid presentation Tuesday

The Samaritans of Rhode Island will sponsor a presentation about opioid abuse at 6:30 p.m. April 17 at Central Baptist Church, 99 Narragansett Ave.

The guest speaker will be Anita Baglaneas Devlin, a Pawtucket native and co-author of the memoir “S.O.B.E.R.” The story is about Devlin’s struggles as she grapples with the stigma of her son’s heroin addiction. It simultaneously follows the perspective of her son, an addict who is suffering emotionally and physically in the grips of the disease.

Devlin is a national recovery advocate and executive director of the Above the Noise Foundation, an organization that sponsors sober musical festivals across the nation. The Samaritans are a nonprofit organization that focuses on suicide prevention.
