Community band on stage Tuesday night

The Jamestown Community Band will perform its spring concert at 7 p.m. May 8 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Ave.

The band, led by former University of Rhode Island band director Don Smith, will feature selections from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Tony Awardwinning musical “Oklahoma,” including “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” and “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top.” The band also will play a modern arrangement of “Frere Jacques,” “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “I Whistle a Happy Tune” from “The King and I.

The performance will be followed by light refreshments. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
