Audubon director will discuss native species

The Conanicut Island Land Trust will feature a guest speaker from the Audubon Society of Rhode Island during its annual meeting at 7 p.m. May 18 at the library, 26 North Road.

The presentation from conservationist Scott Ruhren is titled “From Rarity to Overabundance: Rise and Fall of Species in New England.” Ruhren is responsible for the management of Audubon’s 9,000 acres of protected land in the Ocean State. He also oversees land acquisition, native plant protection and invasive species control. Ruhren earned his doctorate in evolutional biology from Rutgers University and was honored by the Southern Rhode Island Conservation District as the professional conservationist of the year.

Members of the Conanicut Island Land Trust should arrive at 6:45 p.m. for a brief business meeting.
