No shellfishing near West Ferry

Dutch Harbor, from the northern tip of Fort Getty northeast to the mouth of the Great Creek, is closed to shellfish farming until Oct. 10.

The state Department of Environmental Management closes the area annually because of impacts from the West Ferry mooring field. Sheffield Cove, just south of that closed area, is prohibited year-round from harvesting. Shellfish farming in waters within 25 feet of docks at the Fort Wetherill boat basin also is closed for the season.

Other nearby waters closed for the season including Fishing Cove in Wickford Harbor and Potter Cove off Prudence Island.
