Reed will visit library Sunday afternoon

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed will discuss the importance of public libraries at 3 p.m. June 24 at the library, 26 North Road.

Reed, a Jamestown resident, is an advocate for increased funding to ensure library services are accessible to all Americans.

Because he has sponsored virtually every major piece of legislation that supports public libraries in the last two decades, the American Library Association has awarded him its honorary membership, the organization’s highest honor. Other honorees to receive this distinction include Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates.

Reed also is the only person to receive two prestigious Crystal Apple Awards from the American Association of School Librarians.
