Listen to stories about the sea Tuesday night

The director of the Jamestown Community Chorus will perform sea shanties from 6-7 p.m. July 3 at the library, 26 North Road.

B.J. Whitehouse will perform as the Shanteyman. He will sing sea shanties, read nautical poems and tell stories about 19th century seafarers. Children will be able to play in a “fufu” band, which is an improvisational ensemble that plays pots and pans. The Shanteyman uses a multimedia presentation to entertain kids while teaching them about simple instruments used by sailors before the advent of powered machinery.

This free performance is part of the children’s summer reading program. Registration is not required, but space is limited to 100 people.
