Stage set Sunday for local bluegrass band

A bluegrass quartet led by a local guitarist will perform at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at East Ferry Veterans Memorial Square.

Cole Street resident Matt Bolles co-founded the South County Rounders in 1984 with New York banjoist Phil Smith. Since their debut, the rounders have been joined by fiddlers Judy Bolles and Chris Heinzmann. The four musicians share vocals.

Using authentic old-time instruments, the South County Rounders perform traditional bluegrass and swing music, such as “Deep Water” by Bob Wills, “Roseville Fair” by Bill Staines and “Wichita” by Gillian Welch.

This is the penultimate concert of the free summer series sponsored by the town. If it rains, the performance will be across the street at the recreation center, 41 Conanicus Ave.
