Youth and Teen Fall Schedule

PROGRAMS

Karate I (Beginner)
Who: Ages 3-5
Where: Recreation Center Gymnasium
When: Tuesdays from 3:30-4:00
Dates: 9/11-10/30
Cost: Resident- $50, Non Resident- $60
Allow your child to grow physically and mentally
by practicing Karate. Karate offers many different
benefits to youth such as, improved concentration,
stress reduction, improved positive mental focus
and discipline, as well as flexibility and balance.
Children will learn to respect themselves and others. Please wear athletic attire.

Karate II
Who: Ages 6-12
Where: Recreation
Center Gymnasium
When: Tuesdays
from 4:15-5:00
Dates: 9/11-10/30
Cost: Resident-
$50, Non-Resident $60

Karate III
Who: Ages 8-12 (must have taken 2 karate classes
prior)
Where: Recreation Center Gymnasium
When: Tuesdays from 5:15-6:00
Dates: 9/11-10/30
Cost: Resident- $50, Non- Resident- $60
Allow your child to grow physically and mentally
by furthering their karate practice. This session is
for youth who have previously taken two or more
karate sessions and will allow them to learn some
more advanced karate practices. Please wear athletic attire.

TEEN CENTER PROGRAMS

Middle School Boxfit
Who: Grades 5th-8th
Where: Recreation Center Gymnasium
When: Mondays 3:30-4:30 PM
Dates: 9/10-11/5 (No Class on Columbus Day)
Cost: $100 for Teen Center Member, $110 for Non-
Member
Boxing is the hottest trend! Classes are 1 hour long
including a full body workout that incorporates all
the fundamentals of a boxer’s workout. You’ll jump
rope, shadow box, practice pad work, heavy bag
work, and lots of heart-pumping exercises in a fun
and motivating environment. This would be altered
to meet the appropriate work out for middle school

aged youth. These classes are taught be trained professionals from Newport Boxfit. Please wear athletic
clothing and sneakers. Gloves are not required and
will be provided to participants.

Culinary Kids
Who: Grades 5th-8th
Where: Teen Center
When: Wednesdays from 4:30-6 PM
Dates: 9/12-11/7 (no class on Halloween)
Cost: $40 Teen Center Member, $45 Non-Member
Fall back into the kitchen with our popular culinary
kids cooking program! Now that summer is winding down and the air is beginning to get crispier, we
will warm up with some fun fall recipes. Join us in
making soups and plenty of other comfort foods!
Step into our kitchen and learn some basic cooking
skills and explore more about seasonal cooking. You
will get to try each of your creations! Come hungry,
bon appetite! No prior cooking experience necessary.

Mask Making Class
Who: Grades 5th-8th
Where: Teen Center
When: Mondays from 4-5:30 PM
Dates: 9/10-10/22 (No Class on Columbus Day)
Cost: $40 for Teen Center Member, $50 for Non-
Member
Mask making can be fun and an adventure, as you
explore your creativity! You will design, build and
decorate your own personal mask during this 6
week course. Create a favorite animal, action figure,
super hero, or simply a design that moves you. Work
together with Rick Meli a local artist, art historian
and mask maker for over 45 years in creating your
very own masterpiece!

Beginner Crochet
Who: Grades 5th-8th
Where: Teen Center
When: Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 PM
Dates: 9/11-10/30
Cost: $40 for Teen Center Member, $45 for Non-
Member
One of our most popular arts and crafts classes is
back this fall with Miss Lealah! Come learn to crochet cozy creations for the upcoming chilly months!
This is for youth who are brand new to crochet and
looking to learn! You may bring your own yarn and
hooks, however all materials will be available each
class.

Intermediate Crochet (Intermediate Class)
Who: Grades 5th-8th
Where: Teen Center
When: Tuesdays from 4:30-6:00 PM
Dates: 9/11-10/30
Cost: $40 for Teen Center Member, $45 Non-Member Intermediate crochet is led by instructor, Lealah O’
Neill and is a slightly more advanced crochet course
for those who have taken crochet before with us, or
have some prior experience and basic knowledge
who are wishing to further their skills. We will
explore learning to read patterns and trying some
more advanced stitches. As always materials will be
provided, but feel free to bring your own hooks and
yarn if you have them.

Dungeons and Dragons Club
Who: Youth ages 10 & up
Where: Teen Center
When: Thursdays from 3-5 PM
Dates: 9/13-11/1
Cost: $10 Teen Center Member, $15 Non Member
Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) is a fantasy role
playing game in which players create characters and
embark on adventures. D&D takes many traditional
elements from the fantasy genre to provide players
a stage in which, they create the story. The core of
D&D is the storytelling. You and your friends will
tell a story together, guiding your heroes through
quests for treasure, battles with deadly foes, daring
rescues, courtly intrigue and much more. The goal
is to have a fun time journeying through adventures
that D&D can provide. The club encourages students
to coordinate and plan as a team. It is also an effective way to socialize.

PARENTS NIGHT OUT!

Who: Grades K-6
Where: Recreation Center
When: Select Fridays from 5-9:00 PM
Dates: 9/28, 10/12, 10/26 and 11/2
Cost: $10 Resident, $20 Non-Resident
Back by popular demand! Parents night out is back
for 4 fall sessions. Drop your kids (grades K-6) off
at the rec center for a night of structured games and
activities, and we even feed them dinner! Pre-registration is a must as there are a limited number of
spots and these nights fill up QUICKLY!
