Beavertail museum sets annual meeting

A marine archaeologist will discuss shipwrecks in the Providence River from 7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at the library, 26 North Road.

David Robinson, a professor at the University of Rhode Island, will be the guest speaker during the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum Association’s annual meeting. His lecture will focus on the Green Jacket Shoal graveyard in East Providence. Robinson will present a detailed site plan pinpointing these graves with photos of these boats’ skeletal remains, from cargo ships to ferries. With 29 confirmed shipwrecks, this 33- acre area is considered the largest marine graveyard in the state.

The presentation will include complimentary bottled water, ice tea and homemade cookies. Following

Robinson’s lecture, the audience will have the opportunity to answer questions.
