Garden club sets trip to Portsmouth topiary

The Quononoquott Garden Club will sponsor a field trip Sept. 10 to Green Animals Topiary Garden, 380 Corys Lane, Portsmouth.

Members should meet at 10 a.m. in the St. Matthew’s parking lot, 87 Narragansett Ave, to carpool.

Following a guided tour in the vegetable garden, members will be able to roam the grounds, which include more than 80 pieces of topiary throughout the gardens, including animals, birds, geometric figures and ornamental designs sculpted from California privet, yew and English boxwood. Green Animals is the oldest and most northern topiary garden in the United States. Bottled water will be provided. Visitors should pack their own lunches.

A $13 check made out to Quononoquott Garden Club for admission should be sent to Rose Natale, 15 Lugger St., Jamestown. For membership information, call Jeanne Archambault at 423-2823.
