Piano association sets first concert of season

The Jamestown Community Piano Association will open its 2018-19 season at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, 87 Narragansett Ave.

Pianist Zhenni Li will perform during the inaugural recital. A graduate of The Julliard School and the Yale School of Music, Li won the 2017 worldwide debut audition sponsored by New York Concert Artists & Associates. She also won first prize at music competitions in Norway and France.

Li’s debut CD, “Melancholie,” featured works by Schumann, Lourie and Bartok. Her encore album will feature music by Sergei Bortkiewicz. During her local performance, the program will feature works by Beethoven, Isaac Albeniz and Debussy. It will end with Modest Mussorgsky’s virtuoso “Pictures at an Exhibition.”

The concert is free but donations are accepted for piano maintenance. All guest pianists perform on a 7-foot Schimmel grand. A reception will follow the recital in the church hall.
