Waves surrounded Conanicut Island ahead of Hurricane Earl on Friday afternoon, providing surfers with plenty of action at Mackerel Cove and Hull Cove. Meanwhile, Beavertail was crowded with wave-hunting sightseers who wanted to see the stormy, foamy surf. Fortunately, Hurricane Earl was a non-event and was downgraded to a tropical storm early Saturday, barely ruffling a feather in Jamestown. Photo by Jeff McDonough 018p1.jpg
