The whitetail deer population has gone from zero to more than 400 on the island over the last 25 years. Unfortunately, the deer also bring unwanted guests such as the deer tick. The female deer tick can lay a single egg mass with up to 1,500-2,000 eggs, and nearly half of adult females are infected with Lyme disease spirochetes. Photos courtesy of tickencounters.org 004p2.jpg
