With blue skies and 50-degree weather, the 35th annual Jamestown Penguin Plunge had more “people than I’ve ever seen,” according to Tracy Garabedian, event director for Special Olympics Rhode Island. An estimated 2,000 people were showed up at Mackerel Cove Beach on New Year’s Day, and more than 800 ran into the icy water. Special Olympics R.I. raised more than $60,000 in donations this year from the event. Photo by Vic Richardson 18p1.jpg
