Several sailboats were blown ashore along the eastern side of Conanicut Island on Sunday when Hurricane Irene hit New England. This boat (top photo) grounded just behind Conanicut Marina. A crowd gathered at Mackerel Cove (bottom photo) Sunday afternoon to watch the heavy surf at the town beach. The waves washed out Beavertail Road, blocking access to Beavertail. The road was reopened at low tide.
